Prairie Production – 3 Times as Nice with LOLA!

Prairie Production is one of our favorite Chicago wedding venues because of its versatility and value, and we were lucky enough to work there multiple times in the past month!  Congratulations to Therese and Dan married 6.11.10, Jamie and Scot married 6.26.10 and Alicia and Bill married 7.10.10!  Each bride put her own unique stamp on the gallery-like space with soaring ceilings and abundant natural light.  The neutral base palette makes any color pop – and design can range from modern to whimsical.  Here are some highlights!

3 different couples…

These and Dan Perdue married 6.11.10 created a vintage inspired event full or charming details including a ping pong table for entertainment painted the bride’s signature color of yellow!  For more on this event you can also check out the deets Style Me Pretty! Photo by Dean Thorsen

I’m waiting on a photo for Jamie and Scot – stay tuned!  I know you get mad when I dont feature a photo of the happy couple!

Alicia and Bill married 7.10.10 wanted a whimsical event full or color and texture.  When the bride found some cool bird cages she wanted worked into the event design – we were up to the challenge!

Wording and Tone for your Casual Wedding Invitation

Posted by on Aug 1, 2009 in Etiquette & Tipping, Invitations | 0 comments

Not only can it be a challenge to get all the etiquette of a wedding invitation correct – it can be tricky to word your wedding invitation so that it properly reflects the mood and formality of the event… Especially if you are having a more unique reception that may not be the traditional ceremony, dinner, dancing format.  It is important that your invitation sets the correct tone, so that guests can set their expectations accordingly.  It also helps ease their stress on attending something less “cookie cutter” in terms of helping them choose an appropriate gift and the proper attire to wear to the affair.  Here are a few of my favorite client invitations that reflect the vibe of their event perfectly!

Jade and Raj are having a semi-formal multi-cultural affair, and want to make sure that both bride and groom guests are excited and informed as to what to expect from their ceremony. The design of the invitation as well as the wording and fonts are all reflective of this objective, and it has transformed into one of the major inspirations for the entire event. This invitation was created by Visual Affair specifically for the client.

Mary and Victor had a semi-casual affair on the Chicago Lakefront and created this invitation themselves as a DIY project.  They wanted to make sure guests were aware of the location so they wouldn’t wear shoes or clothing inappropriate to the beach or their outdoor venue.  We also loved that they invited their guests to wear certain colors that reflected the time of day – which inspired the decor for their event.

Lori & Bryan had married in a private ceremony previously, and wanted to host a very casual cocktail reception to kick off the 4th of July Weekend and celebrate the recent nuptuals. To make sure guests knew what to expect from the evening and keep the mood extremely casual and festive – they got creative with their invitation.  They weren’t serving dinner and wanted to make sure that was reflected as well.

Good Times and Great Ideas at the LOLA Open House!

Posted by on Mar 11, 2009 in Cakes, Color, Decor, Details, Invitations, Receptions, Trends & Happenings, Trendy Ideas, Wedding Details | 0 comments

The third annual LOLA Open House on Tuesday, February 24, was fun evening at the LOLA studio space in Bucktown, with our clients and some of our favorite vendors. The event was full of fun new wedding trends and ideas for clients to be inspired by.

Guests experienced creative and interactive concepts, viewed event design vignettes and met select vendors over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and music. Local designer, Caroline DeVillo, showcased her latest bridal collection for clients to see up close and personal.

Jesse Deckard, of Botanicals, worked with LOLA to create four design vignettes, based on our favorite ideas and trends and the four seasons. Ideas included eco-friendly concepts, a late night lounge and custom designed linens.

Kristie Wagner, owner of Anjenu, created custom designed printable pieces to fit within each of the design vignettes, including invitations, menus, place cards and a guest book.

Kelly Cavanaugh of Blue Plate Catering worked with LOLA to develop a delicious menu that fit the environment perfectly. The Ladies of The Sweet Collective (Cake by The Sugar Syndicate, Sweets by Rich Chocolates and Candies and Ruth and Phil’s Gourmet Ice Cream) provided yummy sweets and bites of cake in creative flavors, combinations and presentations.

Beauty on Call gave away a great grab bag of beauty goodies to one of LOLA’s lucky brides to help her get ready for her big day.

Talent from MaryMonica Music enhanced the mood with a bluesy violin and upright bass duo.

Some of our favorite features from the event were the place cards done in calligraphy by Write by Mike and affixed to rock candy sticks that pulled double duty as garnishes for the glasses they were placed in and the new linen from BBJ Linen that is made out of recycled bottles!

Special Thanks to Michael Monar for these great photos!
