LOLA Wedding at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

Posted by on Aug 1, 2011 in Bouquet, Cakes, Ceremonies, Color, Decor, Featured Events, Formal Events, Trends & Happenings | 0 comments

Congratulations Mr and Mrs McRae – married 7.9.11! We always love working with Lindsey, Natasha and Mary on weddings at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum – and this past weekend was no exception!  Perfect weather compliments of Mother Nature set the stage for Meghan and Jason’s vision come to life by Amy of Blumen – a very “preppy hip” Nantucket vibe that blended perfectly with the natural background and time of year.  We even had a tiny winged gate-crasher – this lovely little dragonfly matched perfectly with the decor!  I love seeing how each bride puts their individual stamp on this space.  I think my favorite part of the evening was when they were introduced for the first time as husband and wife at the end of the ceremony and a bagpiper came out onto the bridge behind the altar and played them into the reception!

LOLA Wedding at The Drake Hotel

Posted by on Aug 1, 2011 in Bouquet, Cakes, Color, Decor, Featured Events, Formal Events, Trends & Happenings, Vintage Weddings | 0 comments

As a wedding planner in Chicago, there is no more jaw-dropping ballroom in town than the Gold Coast Room at the historic Drake Hotel on Michigan Avenue.  What an honor to work here and to work with such a great couple – Nicole and Brian – on their July 3 wedding and reception!  The classic yet sleek decor by Event Creative with splashes of fuchsia were perfect for the room and summer season, and guests danced the night away to Orchestra 33.  My personal favorite – the bride and groom recessed out of their ceremony to live musicians playing Kady Perry’s “Firework” – how appropriate for the holiday weekend!

LOLA wedding at the Chicago History Museum

The Chicago History Museum was the venue for Laura and Elliott’s beautiful summer wedding ceremony and reception this past weekend.  The choices they made for colors and decor were PERFECTION in the room.  Simple, elegant, timeless!  They made great efforts to ensure the ceremony decor would be equally lovely inside and out in case of bad weather, so when we moved festivities indoors because of the heat and humidity – they were still THRILLED with the look and feel of everything. Flip flops for the female guests, 5 different flavors of cakes on vintage cake plates and the cutest little cake topper complete with glasses to match the groom and taupe sash to match the bride added personal touches to the decor!

Congrats to Jackie and Derrick that had their ceremony and reception at Gallery 1028 on May 21, 2011!  I LOVE the bride’s ballgown skirt and simple styling – totally classic and chic.  The decor featured brilliant bouquets of spring blooms that included bright pink peonies and lilac. A moss covered escort card table and carafs of water that doubled as table numbers finished the decor perfectly. Thanks to Dean Thorsen for the photos!

LOLA at Ravenwood Event Center

As a wedding planner in Chicago, Ravenswood Event Center is one of my favorite venues!  Gorgeous soaring windows and urban landscapes for ceremony, 2 outdoor patios, and of course the collection of vintage neon signs and jaw dropping collection of vintage cars as the backdrop for your reception.  Alisha & Dean Liu made the most of the venue with their modern organic decor from Kehoe that celebrated Dean’s Chinese background with touches of red – but mixed in green, gold, earth tones and a gorgeous shade of ocean blue to make it the perfect summer palette for their June 11 wedding… Final touches included print goods incorporating a sillhouette photo of them from their engagement shoot, and of course a signature drink the “Lucky Liu” that guests picked up on their way into the ceremony!

Hearing from past clients is a true blessing!

Posted by on May 17, 2011 in Client Testimonials, Things We Love | 0 comments

As a wedding planner in Chicago, we have a lot of days that are full of crazy requests, challenging situations, and fun meetings like tastings and decor samples…  It isn’t a bad gig!  But when I opened my email this morning to this wonderful note from Tonia Rumrill Nelson who is celebrating her 2 year anniversary today (5/17/09 A New Leaf)…  I felt truly blessed!  These moments are the true reward of our profession and what make our job wonderful. We are so happy to hear from you!

Lori,
Two years later and we still can’t thank you enough.  Your help with our wedding on May 17, 2009 was beyond either of our expectations.  Not only did it allow us to enjoy the day but our mothers as well.  Things went so well we ended up welcoming our daughter Maya Snow Nelson into the world just a little over a year later.  We seriously can’t thank you enough not only for what you did but the various vendors: Pia, Michael Monar, Limelight, etc.  We hope all is well with you and that this upcoming year is a very successful one for Lola.

University Club of Chicago Brunch Wedding with LOLA

Posted by on May 8, 2011 in Color, Decor, Details, Formal Events | 0 comments

LOLA loves a brunch wedding – and Mother Nature was smiling on April 30th as Andrew and Laura walked down the aisle at Holy Name Cathedral for their 11am ceremony.  Following the ceremony, guests gathered for a lively brunch reception in Cathedral Hall at the University Club of Chicago where the English garden inspired decor was perfect for the Spring season.  Bouquets and centerpieces loaded with Peony, Lilac, Ranuculous and other garden flowers spilled from urns that trailed ivy were created by LOLA.  Each napkin was accented with fresh Lavender – the bride’s favorite. Later in the evening, guests gathered at Luxbar for dancing and dessert and partied late into the evening – an entire day of wedding fun! Thanks to Michael Monar for these fantastic shots!

Club LOLA – Classic Wedding Styles Gone Modern

Posted by on Mar 13, 2011 in Color, Decor, Details, Formal Events, Tips from LOLA Pros, Trends & Happenings, Trendy Ideas | 0 comments

Club LOLA was the trend for our bar and sweet table at our annual open house.  Here are the trends it focused on:

  • We have lots of brides that book venues like Cathedral Hall at the University Club of Chicago and want to make the room feel softer.  The trends featured in this vignette are perfect for that – leathers, plaids and heavy large furnishings can be made more feminine with gestural floral, eclectic candlelight and feminine touches!
  • The “Butler’s Pantry” is a trend we LOVE!  Mix and match with your tabletop items – vintage silverware, crystal and sterling serving pieces and spin into a modern eclectic look!
  • The classic monogram is something that works beautufilly for a couple that wants a statement that can carry though both masculine and feminine design details.
  • Champagne Cocktails are a classic that never goes out of style – add fruity touches in your signature color to create a more customized signature cocktail
  • Monogram your cupcakes and color coordinate your sweet table for a look that carries your design themes thru the food for your event
  • Add a fresh bloom to a crisp white linen napkin to finish your tabletop design

Thanks to Event Creative, Magnificent Milestones, Tablescapes, BBJ Linen, Blue Plate Catering and More Cupcakes for helping us with our trend translation! Thanks to Michael Monar for these photos.

One of the LOLA Pro’s Ties the Knot!

Well, what can we say?  We love Kristy and we love everything about Kristy’s wedding!  Her dress was gorgeous, she picked one of our favorite wedding venues – Salvage One, we rocked out all night with DJ Chris, Steve Koo’s pictures are amazing, and Limelight did a spectacular job with the menu!  The flowers were also not too shabby although I am partial since they are a LOLA creation.  This is what a bride should look like on her wedding day – smiling, laughing, and totally in love (and of course stress free because of her amazing wedding planners).  We love you Kristy and Goetch!  Happy Holidays everyone!

And the bride wore… PRINT!

Posted by on Nov 17, 2010 in Color, Decor, Details, Fashion, Featured Events, Things We Love, Trendy Ideas, Wedding Details | 0 comments

I love a bold bride – someone who REALLY wants to do something different.  Well, that is exactly what we got when we met Becky and Brendan who tied the knot in an informal ceremony on August 28, 2010!  From her gorgeous print gown to the cocktail style reception for their 125 guests at the Old Oak Tap in their Ukie Village neighborhood – this bride broke all the rules with her hip style. This just goes to show that a non-traditional event can flow beautifully, and that guests will have a great time celebrating no matter what the format as long as it is well thought out and creative. Thanks to Monica Z Photography for these fantastic images! Floral by LOLA Event Productions.

LOLA at Architectural Artifacts

Posted by on Nov 8, 2010 in Color, Decor, Details, Featured Events, Receptions, Vintage Weddings, Wedding Details | 0 comments

When an event planner named Lori gets married at Architectural Artifacts on November 6, 2010, what does she do?  Why, hire another event planner named Lori to help her pull things together for her big day! And what an event it was… From the gorgeous eclectic tables featuring textured linens, flowers and containers, to the branchy dance floor lighting and the custom print goods that were right on trend for 2011.  However, I think my favorite part of the evening may have been the Father/Daughter dance.  It brought me back to my “head banging” days with a little GNR “Sweet Child of Mine.” How fun is that? Congratulations Lori & Ross Dimun!
